Vacation Packages – Traveling On a Budget
Between vacation dream and travel reality, there is a vacation package for your budget. The typical traveler begins the budgeting process by looking at basic travel goals in light of available time and money. It’s usually fairly simple to determine how much money you have available; the hard part is determining how much it will take to do the trip you have in mind.
This is why so many people simply consider looking into vacation packages. You simply let your travel agent know how long and how much money you plan to spend on your trip. Within a few seconds you will know what is available for your budget. However, a vacation package is not for everyone.
You can hitchhike, sleep out, and eat basic groceries in low-cost countries for ultra cheap. You can patronize five-star hotels and travel first-class in Scandinavia and Japan for a fortune. Your path will probably wind between the extremes.
It’s nice if you can find a vacation package that happens to fit easily into your budget constraints. Often, however, it’s those budget constraints that ultimately shape your approach to your vacation.
Once you’ve got the basic concept in mind and are ready to see if your budget will fit your vacation dream, it’s time to do some figuring. It’s important to have your budget figured out before you start to shop for vacation packages. This will help you to determine if a vacation package is right for your travel needs.
Vacation Travel Costs vs. Vacation Package Coasts
Transportation – This includes everything from air packages to taxi fares, whether purchased at home or abroad. Clearly the amount needed will vary from trip to trip. $750 - $1,500 is a rough range for a medium distance round-trip with a month of getting around. If you are planning a vacation and are only going for two weeks, simply break this in half. It’s better to over estimate than to under estimate while traveling.
With a vacation package you can save about 50% of the costs for round trip flights in many cases.
Daily Allowance – This primarily means food, shelter, admissions and recreation. Shopping is big on some peoples’ lists. Other pricey things worth anticipating include international phone calls, postage and shipping, guided tours and treks, and visa fees. This depends upon many factors including your style and the countries involved. A daily allowance budget might be $10-$30 ($300-$1,000 per month) in the developing world, $25-$60 ($750-$2,000 per month) in developed nations. More or less is possible in either.
If you are on a tight budget, this is where a vacation package can really save you a lot of money. With some packages, it is like getting your hotel for free if you consider the costs of purchasing and booking a hotel, air and transport separately.
It doesn’t matter how well-funded your trip is; you may still have to get it together mentally to avoid obsessing about money. Remember that the ultimate financial goal is to have a base of relaxation upon which vacation stories can be sought and travel adventures experienced. Only you can decide if a vacation package is right for your budget.
